Educational aid for fishermen families

CHENNAI: The Chennai Collectorate has decided to provide educational assistance for families of fishermen living in coastal areas.

According to a press release from the Collector, the government has decided to give Rs.50,000, covering degree and diploma courses in nautical science and marine engineering.

Those seeking the assistance should be members of the fishermen’s association.

The scheme is applicable only to students who were enrolled for academic year 2007-08.

The institution where the student is studying should have been approved by the Union Shipping Ministry, New Delhi.

The applications can be had from the Office of the Fisheries Department, Royapuram.
