Ameya, Chitesh steal the thunder

Sports Reporter

Coimbatore: Ameya Walavalkar and Chitesh Mandody pulled off stunning victories in the senior and junior categories much to the delight of Team Mohite’s Racing Academy in the third round of the JK Tyre Rotax Mojo Max Indian karting challenge at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam here on Sunday.

In the senior class, Mumbai’s Ameya shot past pole leader Rayomand Banajee at the start. But the latter moved in quickly and threatened to sneak past the former at every given opportunity. Just when it looked to boil down to the wire, Rayomand’s vehicle stalled at the final stretch and, with it, crushed all his dreams of reaching the finish line.

Chitesh has reasons to smile because he finally managed to gain the top berth on the podium. After having secured two second places in the last two races of the junior class, the Kolhapur youngster looked determined to do the job this time around. He did face a stiff battle against Samyak Shah of Mumbai. Samyak was not one to give up that easily. He kept pushing hard. So did Chitesh. But, at the end, it was Chitesh who managed to have the last laugh.

It was Dhruv Mohite of Team Mohite’s Racing Academy all the way in the Micro Max category. The ten-year-old faced no real challenge and wound up yet another weekend on a merry note. Bangalore’s Arjun Maini of Team Meco Motorsports did well to finish second.

The results: Seniors (20 laps): 1. Ameya Walavalkar 16:53:698; 2. G.R. Shankar Narayanan 17:01:884; 3. Karan Goenka 17:11:527. Juniors (20 laps): 1. Chitesh Mandody 13:32:229; 2. Samyak Shah 13:22:534; 3. Vishnu Prasad 13:27:176.

Micro Max (15 laps): 1. Dhruv Mohite 12:06:016; 2. Arjun Maini 12:09:679; 3. Krishna Mahadik 12:19:680. — Sports Reporter
