CPI (M) opposes Thatipudi water for Jindal

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), district unit, has threatened to launch an agitation if the water from Thatipudi reservoir project was diverted to the proposed Jindal Alumina refinery in S.Kota mandal.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the party secretary M. Krishna Murty said that the government was so deceitful that it had been changing options time and again and keeping farmers in dark over the supply of water to the refinery.

It said at the public hearing that it would supply water from Raiwada and later at other meetings that GVMC would supply water through a separate pipeline.

Now, according to reports in a section of the press that the government had decided to supply water from Thatipudi, he said and added that supplying drinking water from the reservoir to Visakhapatnam City was against the interests of local farmers.

Hence, the recent proposal would certainly affect the ayacutdars, the CPI (M) leader said and demanded that the Ministry of Environment scrap the permission given to Jindal else the party would mobilise farmers for a show down.
