Bus travellers have a hard time at Bidar station

Staff Correspondent

NEKRTC took up modernisation work a year ago

BIDAR: Inadequate seating arrangements for travellers at the City Bus Terminal here has resulted in inconvenience for them.

The North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) undertook modernisation of the bus terminus a year ago, at a cost of Rs. 1.6 crore.

As of now, work on concrete flooring has been completed, but the granite is yet to be polished.

After the modernisation was taken up, the waiting hall for women has become a dumping ground for construction material. Speaking to The Hindu here on Friday, Pundalik, a resident of Chincholi village in Gulbarga district, said: “My daughter, who is physically-challenged, has been sitting in front of the locked hall for about half-an-hour waiting for a bus, to return home.”

“Had the waiting room been in good condition, we could have relaxed there for a while,” he added.

No rest

The waiting hall for transport staff has also become a dumping ground for construction material.

This has forced many drivers to occasionally sleep in the bus. Bus drivers said the waiting hall meant for them had only four beds, and ever since construction material was being dumped there, there was no place for them to relax after work.

Temporary shed

“The officials could have erected a temporary shed to dump the construction material,” the drivers said.

Divisional Controller Shivashankarappa said work on providing better infrastructure at the bus terminus would begin shortly after the floor polishing was completed.
