VISAKHAPATNAM: The CPI (M) city unit on Thursday burnt posters released by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation on the building penalisation scheme (BPS) at the GVMC office. The GVMC has brought out the posters as a part of its campaign to press owners of buildings to apply for regularisation of deviations under the plan and pay the penalty amount for it. The posters will be pasted at the buildings alleged to have violated the submitted plan as well as other provisions to press them come forward for regularisation. After three extensions of the deadline for making applications under the BPS, July 15 is said to be the last date for seeking regularisation. Deploring the ‘threats’ to the middle class from the government, CPI (M) district secretariat member B. Ganga Rao said as the BPS and layout regularisation issues were pending in the court bringing pressure was not justified. The party demanded that amendments be made to the relevant GO basing the penalty on the cost of land prevailing in 1998.
