NEW DELHI: The Government, on Thursday, increased the monthly pension for meritorious sportspersons by 100 per cent. The decision was taken here at a meeting of the General Committee, chaired by Union Sports Minister M.S. Gill. Following the revision, Olympic medallists will now get Rs. 10,000. Gold medal winners at the World Cup or World Championship will be eligible to get Rs. 8,000 while silver and bronze medallists will receive Rs. 7,000 each. The pension for gold medallists in Commonwealth and Asian Games will be Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 6,000 for the silver and bronze winners. In Paralympic Games, gold, silver and bronze medallists will receive Rs. 5,000, Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively. — Sports Reporter
