Vijayawada, Secunderabad in last four

VIJAYAWADA: Secunderabad and Vijayawada, with three and two victories respectively, topped pool B to qualify for the semifinals in the South Central Railway inter-divisional kabaddi tournament for men held at Satyanarayanapuram Railway Institute here on Wednesday.

Inter-collegiate competitions

Vijayawada’s Andhra Loyola College will host basketball (men and women), football and hockey tournaments for colleges the year 2008-2009.

Dhoni XI posts win

Dhoni XI defeated Sehwag XI by 16 runs in the Krishna District Cricket Association’s u-14 selection match here on Wednesday.

The scores: Dhoni XI 140 in 59.1 overs (Goutham 31) bt Sehwag XI 124 in 53 overs (Koutilya 45 n.o, Akrash three for 16).

Chess tournament

Brilliant Chess Academy will conduct the Brilliant Trophy Open prize money chess tournament at Brilliant Grammar School, Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, on July 12 and 13 from 9.30 a.m. Entries will be accepted until 9 a.m. on the opening day at the venue. Selection trials

The Ranga Reddy District Amateur Athletics Association will conduct selection trials at the track behind Saroornagar indoor stadium to pick its team for the state inter-district championships at Vijayawada from July 27 to 29 for boys and girls under 20, 18, 16 and 14 years of age. Umpires selected

Four umpires from Visakhapatnam — N. Syam Sundar Rao, K.B. Kondala Rao, Ch. Raja Rao and K. Ratan Kumar — have been selected to the State panel of the Andhra Cricket Association following a test conducted by the association in Vijayawada on June 29.
