Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil has requested a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday in view of the political developments.
The Prime Minister is expected to be back here from Japan after attending the G8 summit in the early hours of Thursday.
In a communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday night, the President noted that a list of 60 MPs of the four Left parties — the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, the All India Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party — was given to her along with letters of withdrawal of support from the United Progressive Alliance.
She also took note of her meeting with Samajwadi Party leaders Amar Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav who submitted a letter of support to the UPA.
“Keeping in mind these political developments, the President has requested the Prime Minister to meet her on the 10th of July, 2008,” the communiqué stated.
