BJP to restructure its State unit

BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to restructure its party organisation by effecting some changes in the set of State office-bearers and State executive.

According to sources in the party, the restructuring is expected to be taken up in a few days and a formal announcement will be made before July 15.

The restructuring has been necessitated in the wake of four prominent office-bearers being appointed as Ministers. They are two general secretaries S. Suresh Kumar and Shobha Karandlaje and two vice-presidents Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri and Mumtaz Ali Khan. The party is set to find suitable alternatives to them.

The party, which had recently announced 33 per cent reservation to women in its organisation, is also expected to implement this in the restructuring exercise. As per the indication, six women members might get the office-bearers’ posts. At present, the party has only one woman office-bearer. In fact, the total number of women who get party organisational posts will increase to 24 as 18 women are expected to be appointed to the State executive. The restructuring will be confined to only a few posts and D.V. Sadananda Gowda will continue as president, sources noted.

There is also a speculation that some of the disappointed ministerial aspirants might get prominent organisational posts. The party is facing serious heartburn as a large number of its senior legislators, who were confident of getting ministerial berths, could not be accommodated in the Ministry as the party gave ministerial berths to five independent members and is also in the process of including three newly joined leaders from other parties in its Ministry.
