Policeman helps pregnant woman
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: A railway police head constable’s timely action helped a pregnant woman reach hospital where she gave birth to a healthy baby.
According to police, 30-year-old Alamelu was travelling from Parapanangaadi in Kerala to Tirupur, by Mangalore-Chennai Express. On Tuesday evening, before the train reached Tirupur, Alamelu, a resident of Thaneerpandal in Tirupur, developed labour pain. Co-passengers in the compartment alerted the railway police.
When the train reached the station, the head constable at the railway police station had an ambulance waiting to pick up Alamelu. She was rushed to the maternity centre nearby where she was delivered of a male baby around 5 p.m. Her husband, Ramesh, was also informed.
