Sri Lankan arrested

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old Sri Lankan who attempted to travel to Colombo using fake ‘Emergency Certificate’ was apprehended by the Immigration authorities on Tuesday.

He was arrested and remanded to custody.

Immigration sources said S. Sathish of Colombo was staying in Valasaravakkam.

He came to the airport to board a Colombo-bound flight for which he produced the certificate, which was found to be fake.

Emergency certificate is a substitute for a passport. In case a person from abroad loses his passport in a country where he moved to, then he could apply for an emergency certificate with his country’s High Commission.

It is a one time travel document, added the Immigration authorities.
