Nation needs new government: Joshi

Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime has failed on all fronts and it should be replaced by a more stable, meaningful and effective government, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi here on Tuesday.

In the wake of Left parties decision to withdraw support to the government, literally there was no government at the Centre. “At this moment we are in need of a government like the one led by Vajpayee to the keep the country intact, economy under control, prevent cross border terrorism and protect the country’s strategic interests,” he said.

With attempts to create a new coalition and seek new support, the government’s legitimacy was now in doubt. “The UPA has every right to destabilise itself. But it has no right to destabilise the country,” he said.

Referring to the fall of the Ghulam Nabi Azad government in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Joshi said that by cancelling the order of transfer of forest land to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Central and State governments had surrendered to the religious fundamentalists and separatists.
