Abhishek defeated S. Vignesh in the final BANGALORE: R. Abhishek and Ashwini Bhat claimed the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the under-10 section of the Canara Bank State-ranking badminton championship at the KBA courts here on Monday. Abhishek defeated S. Vignesh 21-14, 21-10 in the final, while Ashwini beat Apeksha Nayak 21-18, 21-12. Abhishek went on to complete a double, annexing the doubles crown partnering Nikhil Sriram. Inter-school cricketThe second edition of the Boost inter-school cricket tournament (u-16) will get underway here on Tuesday. The Procam International-promoted venture has grown in strength and the current edition has attracted 111 teams. It will be played on a league-cum-knockout format over two phases. The winner of the final phase will represent Karnataka/Bangalore in the Boost Cricket Cup inter-city challenge. Presidency School (RT Nagar) is the defending champion. Narrow winBishop Cotton’s Boys High School recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over host St. Joseph’s Boys High School in the Centenary Shield inter-school hockey tournament for seniors at the KSHA stadium here on Monday. Abhishek Kumar scored the match-winner in the first half for Bishop Cottons. In the Father Eric Vaz Memorial tournament for juniors, St. Joseph’s Boys High School ‘A’ beat St. John’s Boys High School 1-0 with U. Pranay scoring the winning goal two minutes after the first half. Hockey tournamentThe Karnataka State Hockey Association will conduct the T. Shanmugham memorial inter-school and inter-collegiate tournaments from July 29 to August 9 at the KSHA stadium. Students up to Class X can take part in the inter-school event, while the inter-collegiate tournament will be for students studying in the PU College of the same institution. Schools and colleges in Karnataka may send their entries for the tournaments before July 16 to the Secretary, Karnataka State Hockey Association, Rhenius Street, Langford Town, Bangalore. Twelve teams are in the fray ‘Thanksgiving’ timeIt was ‘thanksgiving’ time after the inaugural Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore run, held on May 18, this year. The event, in its inaugural year, generated Rs 41.35 lakh for the 36 charities associated with it and Bangalore Cares- the charity partner -came up with its share of thank-you’s to the various corporates, associations and individuals.
