CHENNAI: A man who locked himself in a first class coupe compartment of a train bound for Mangalore from the Central Railway Station here on Sunday morning gave anxious moments to the Railway officials and the police. The 35-year-old man, who spoke a dialect of Hindi, got into the compartment of West Coast Express around 11 a.m. With the train expected to depart at 11.30 a.m., the Railway police had a tough time convincing him to get off. Railway officials and the police had to cajole him into getting off the train. The police said he was mentally deranged and could not even tell them his name. “He looked like he had been travelling for four days and this led people to believe he was just another passenger. Since platform No. 1 is near Wall Tax Road, he could have easily entered the station,” a railway policeman said. The police suspect that he could be from the Armed Service as he saluted with precision. The police handed him over to volunteers from The Banyan. Volunteers said Hindi-speaking persons, who would report for duty on Monday, would help them decipher the man’s speech.
