Singers hold sway on Day Two of ‘Ergo Blitz’

Winners: Ravi and Vaidehi of Hexaware who won the Singing Sensation contest at ‘Ergo Blitz’ on Sunday.

CHENNAI: Associates from IT and IT-enabled services companies held the centrestage for the second day in succession in tabloid Ergo’s inter-corporate culturals, ‘Ergo Blitz’ at the Image Auditorium, MRC Nagar.

More than 30 teams participated in the closely-contested “Singing Sensations” contest that ran for nearly six hours before Ravi and Vaidehi from Hexaware were named the winners. Vani and Sairama Balachader from TCS bagged the second prize while the team from Wipro, comprising Renu, Arul, Sriram, Suresh, Deepika, Deepa and Arulazhagan bagged the third prize. There was a “Special Mention” award for the team ‘Euphonica” from Cognizant that won the audience and the judges alike with their soulful rendition of A.R.Rahman’s “Vande Mataram”.

The rousing reception for the inter-corporate event continued on the second and final day, with close to 100 singers from over 20 firms participating in the competitions. On Saturday, over 150 participants competed in the dance competitions that saw the team from Cognizant bag the top honours.

The judges for the vocal competitions M.J.Shriraham, whose orchestra Shreeraham Music Troupe accompanied the singers, Sanjeev Thomas, Eddie Prithviraj and Arjun Dhanrajan, acknowledged that the quality of singing of most of the competitors was above par.

Mr.Shriraham also invited some of the participants to join his troupe for part-time singing assignments .

As a grand finale to the first edition of the culturals by Ergo, young playback singers Benny Dayal, Ranjith, Shweta Menon and Kalyani, along with dancers from Raack Academy, entertained the audience for more than an hour.

Ergo Blitz was presented by Nippon Paints. Chennai Corporate Club was the associate sponsor, Radio One the radio partner and SS Music the entertainment partner. The Checkers Hotel was the food and beverage partner. Prize sponsors were Fa, Gothi’s Jewellery, Mahavir Optics, Fitness One, GRT Stylus and Hi Tours. The event was managed by Show Space.
