Courtesy call: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan visits the home of slain DYFI leader K.U. Biju at Kodungalloor, near Thrissur, on Saturday. Thrissur: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, on Saturday, called on the kin of the slain Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leader K.U. Biju at Kodungallur. Suspected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists had assaulted DYFI Kodungalloor block committee vice-president and municipal committee secretary Biju, 28, on Monday. He died on Wednesday. The Chief Minister visited his home around 4 p.m. and consoled Biju’s parents. P.R. Rajan, MP, and A.C. Moideen and Babu Palissery, MLAs, were present. The Chief Minister described the attack as “cruel and gruesome.” Asked if it reflected poor policing in the State, he said he did not think so.
