NAGAPATTINAM: Ayyappan’s all-round performance (42 and four for 20) was the highlight of Puducherry’s four-wicket win over Nagapattinam in a league encounter of the TNCA under-22 inter-district cricket tournament, here on Saturday. Meanwhile at Theni, half-centuries by Sheriff (54) and Tabarak Baig (50 not out) helped Vellore defeat Theni by eight wickets for its fourth win in the five-team league on Saturday. In another match, Erode beat Ramanathapuram by 21 runs for its third win. The scores: At Nagapattinam: Tiruvallur 173 in 49.4 overs bt Namakkal 169 in 48.3 overs (Gautam 64, Karthikeyan 44, Shijith Chandran four for 14); Nagapattinam 190 in 49.5 overs (Murugavel 56, Ayyappan four for 20) lost to Puducherry 191 for six in 47.3 overs (Malairaja 56, Ayyappan 42). Nagapattinam and Puducherry qualified for the next stage. At Theni: Theni 161 for nine in 50 overs (Arun Kanna 41) lost to Vellore 162 for two in 27.2 overs (Sheriff 54, Tabarak Baig 50 n.o.); Erode 206 in 48 overs (S. Dinesh 52) bt Ramanathapuram 185 in 37 overs (Saran Jeyakumar 59, Udaya four for 58). Vellore and Erode qualified for the next stage.
