KOCHI: The Kerala Muslim Jamaat Council has deplored the Indo-US nuclear deal, saying that it is inimical to India’s interests. Addressing mediapersons at the Ernakulam Press Club on Saturday, State general secretary of the organisation A. Pookunju alleged that India was facing pressure from the US to sign the deal. But he warned that any fissure in the coalition of secular parties would lead to Sangh Parivar organisations coming to power. “The Congress is now trying to befriend Mulayam Singh Yadav to garner Muslim votes. We welcome the Muslim League’s decision to withdraw its representative from the Union Cabinet if the Centre went ahead with the deal,” he said. Referring to the controversy in Kerala over the Class VII social science textbook, he said that it would be ideal to remove the controversial references.
