Kozhikode: Tribal healers and experts on indigenous medicine, from across the country, will congregate at a five-day national workshop on ‘Tribal Healing’ to be held at the Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development Studies (Kirtads) here from July 7. They will share their expertise and experiences in the field, a press release issued here said. The event, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Kirtads, and the Indian Indigenous People Service Society, will also feature an exhibition of tribal medicine. Ethnic healers will also undertake on-the-spot treatment for specific ailments. Workshop coordinator N. Vishwanathan Nair said in the release that tribal healers from Tripura, Manipur, Meghalya, Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka would participate. The workshop will brainstorm on various possibilities of tribal medicine, besides seeking ways and means to make it easily accessible to society, in its purest form. Public can also interact with the healers and tribal medicine experts on the nature and application of different medicines, during the workshop. Renowned tribal medicine experts from Wayanad, including Achappan Vaidyar, Rajan Vaidyar and Kattikkulam Kelu Vaidyar, among others, will attend the workshop.
