Ukraine woos Indian students

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Ukraine has become the hub of European students thanks to its reasonable course fee and quality education matching world standards, Irina Petrova, International Students’ Head of Lugansk State Medical University has said.

Addressing a press conference here, Dr. Petrova said the country also offers high standards of living. About 2,000 students from India are pursuing various higher education programmes in Ukraine.

She said students are generally advised to join medical and other universities under the Ministry of Health in Ukraine.

There are nearly 25 highly accredited State-level universities in the country, she said.

Referring to the MBSS programme offered by Lugansk State Medical University, Dr. Petrova said the annual fee for the programme is about $3,500. Universities in Ukraine do not offer scholarships to foreign students. But exceptional students are allowed to work during their studies. They can work in hospitals and libraries during their course period.

Dr. Petrova said Ukraine is a safe destination, as students are provided adequate security on the campus.

The country has no internal problems. Explaining that the Indian Medical Council and World Health Organisation have recognised the MBBS, MD and MS courses offered by Lugansk State Medical University, Ms. Petrova said the number of students taking up MBBS and Aeronautical Engineering courses in Ukraine has gone up steadily.

She claimed that National Aerospace University — KHARKIV Aviation Institute — is equipped with the biggest workshop in the world. Top aircraft manufacturing companies of the world recruit students from here, she said.
