Guindy Park sees rise in revenue
P. Oppili
CHENNAI: It’s been a good year for the Guindy Park. A gradual increase in the number of visitors over the years has seen a simultaneous jump in revenue.
In 2005-06, the total collection stood at Rs.26.78 lakh, which rose to Rs.42.77 lakh in the subsequent year. In 2007-08, the collection touched an all-time high of Rs.45.16 lakh, which was only Rs.16.29 lakh a decade ago. In the first two months of the current financial year, Rs.13.17 lakh had been collected by way of selling entry tickets and charges for cameras and video cameras, Chennai Wildlife Warden Ashish Srivastava said.
There has also been an increase in the number of people visiting Children’s Park, Guindy, over the last three years. Available data showed that in the last few of years more than 11 lakh persons, including children, visited the park in a year.
Various factors seem to have contributed to the increase in number of visitors. Mr. Srivastava said the main reasons were the location of the park and affordable ticket cost. A decade ago (in 1998-99), 9.26 lakh persons visited the Park, of which more than 3.11 lakh were children. In 2007-08, over 9.54 lakh people visited the Park.
