MADURAI: The Madurai Aavin on Wednesday launched two new products, ‘Aavin Jamun’ and ‘1.5 per cent fat milk.’ The fat content of normal milk sold by Aavin is 4.5 per cent. The new 1.5 per cent fat content milk could be used for consumption by children, elders and those who are health cautious, an official press release said. The Madurai Aavin, known as Madurai District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, is one of the 17 units in the State and comes under Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation. The Madurai Aavin covers Madurai and Theni districts. Collector S.S. Jawahar, who is also its Special Officer, launched the products. The ‘Aavin Jamun’ joins Milk Peda and Mysorepa, the other sweet products from Madurai Aavin. Aavin Jamun is made of ghee and pure milk without using any flour in a fully-automated hygienic process without the use of hand. The jamun should be consumed within seven days of its manufacture. It is available in separate packets from 100 gram to 1 kilogram. While the 100 gm pack costs Rs. 20, the 1 kg packet is sold at Rs. 150. The Madurai Aavin, procures about 2.60 lakh litres of milk every day from 872 milk cooperative societies. K. Thangarajan, General Manager (in-charge), and S. Karthikeyan, Marketing Manager, took part in the programme.
