KOZHIKODE: The Calicut University Staff Organisation has criticised the undue importance given to writers with CPI (M) leanings in the textbooks prescribed in the Malayalam syllabus for the degree course of the Calicut University. The organisation wanted the syllabus that was approved by the Academic Council at the meeting held on April 5 and to be introduced this academic year to be withdrawn forthwith. The organisation pointed out that the writers whose works have been included in the Malayalam syllabus include that of E.M.S. Nambudiripad, P. Govinda Pillai, K.E.N. Kunhammed, N.V.P. Unnithiri, P.K. Pokker, K.N. Ganesh and G.P Ramachandran, all Marxist fellow travellers it was alleged.
