KOZHIKODE: The district unit of Kerala Sarvodaya Mandalam on Friday appealed to the State government to reconstitute with “impartial members” the expert committee formed to study the controversial Class VII social science textbook. It also appealed to the government and the protesters to try to reach a settlement. T. Balakrishnan, president, Kozhikode unit of Kerala Saravodaya Mandalam, also urged the Minister to ensure that only chapters four and five of the controversial book that dealt with geography, and not the portions that had triggered protests, were taught in July and August. The portions of the book which have triggered protest should be modified, if necessary, in the light of the recommendations of the newly appointed expert panel. These portions, after being approved by the panel of impartial experts, should be made available to the students by end-August so as to be taught in September or October, he said.
