“Madhes province won’t disintegrate Nepal”

Prerana Marasini

KATHMANDU: Upendra Yadav, chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, one of the Madhes-based parties, has said the demand of a single province in the southern plains would not disintegrate Nepal.

Madhes-based parties have been obstructing the Constituent Assembly’s meetings this week to press for their demand of a single province.

Mr. Yadav told The Hindu: “If establishing autonomous states would mean disintegration, then the U.S. and India wouldn’t be what they are. It’s a conspiracy against us by the big parties.”

Nepal’s southern plains have fertile land and this area is the largest producer of agricultural goods. Madhes’ populace speaks Maithali, Bhojpuri and Avadhi. Hindi is also commonly used in these regions.
