Calicut University to follow credit system

Staff Reporter

System to begin from this academic year

Post-graduate programme to have three courses

Kozhikode: All regular post-graduate programmes of the academic departments of Calicut University will follow the Choice-based Credit Semester System (CCSS) from this academic year. The decision to implement the CCSS was taken by the Academic Council in April, a university spokesman said here on Thursday.

The CCSS involves a semester system, course credit, internal assessment, and inter-departmental academic collaboration. It gives freedom to academic departments to frame rules on academic matters and introduce new study programmes and structure courses. The students can also select their courses according to their interest and aptitude.

As per the system, the post-graduate programmes will have three courses – core (main subject), elective and audit – besides mandatory project work. The project work involves a maximum of eight and at least four credits. There will be four credits excluding the project work. There will be no credit for audit course, he said. All post-graduate programmes except MBA shall have a minimum of 48 credits for core course, 16 credits for elective course, and eight for project and for seminars. The aggregate shall be at least 72 credits. For the MBA programme, the credit for core subject will be 56; elective, 16; project and seminar, 8.

The CCSS system will also have a method to assess the academic quality of programmes as well as assess the performance of teachers by students.
