Mumbai: The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2009 prize money has been raised to $2,50,000, an increase of $10,000 from the fifth edition held in January 2008. Describing the event as one that has grown from strength to strength, Neeraj Swaroop, Regional Chief Executive India and South Asia, SCB, said that the theme of the sixth edition would be ‘run for a cause’ in order to raise money for charity. The event has raised Rs. 26 crores in the first five years. At the launch of the registrations for the event, S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), said his company’s objective is to create an exclusive Children’s Hospital in Mumbai and around 1000 people employed with the Tata Group in different parts of the world could run in the competition. TCS is the exclusive associate sponsor of the marathon. Registrations for the 2009 event will open on July 10 and close on August 30. NGOs and Corporates will contribute to the 5000 pledges each.
