VISAKHAPATNAM: Airtel has come forward to provide tree guards for plants in various parts of the city as part of public-private participation works, according to Mayor P. Janardhana Rao. Estimates to the tune of Rs.50 lakhs for planting saplings were prepared and as many as 7,200 tree guards would be required in 72 wards, he said. Already 2,000 tree guards were available, and Airtel came forward to set up 1,500 tree guards in selected areas. As some of these roads were being widened, he asked the sponsors to select some other roads. He also requested the sponsor to take up planting of saplings and providing tree guards. Airtel representative Vamsidhar gave a presentation. Additional Commissioners Pola Bhaskar, N. Mohanarao and Chief Engineer B. Jayarama Reddy were present.
