Unkindest cut: The sandalwood tree that was felled on the Mysore zoo premises in the early hours of Tuesday. MYSORE: Two persons of a four-member gang were caught red-handed while they were felling a sandalwood tree on Mysore zoo premises, in the early hours of Tuesday. The police gave their names as Adinarayan and Subramani. A search has been launched by Nazarbad Police for two persons who managed to escape. The four were seen hacking the tree by security guards. They alerted other personnel who nabbed Adinarayan who was trying to hide behind a rhinoceros cage. A combing operation was launched, and around 6 a.m., Subramani was found hiding near a bush. He was handed over to the police. It is suspected that the four gained entry to the zoo, and hid behind dense foliage waiting for darkness to descend. The police gave those who escaped as Manikanta and Thanesh. All the four belonged to Salem in Tamil Nadu, they said. The police said that the same gang was responsible for felling of a sandalwood tree in Karanji Nature Park some time ago.
