Indian killed in Indonesian plane crash

P.S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE: An Indian national working for an international firm in Singapore is believed to have been killed in the crash of a small transport aircraft of the Indonesian military.

The accident occurred last Thursday in difficult terrain, and the “positive identification” of his body would take place this week, according to official sources.

All 18 aboard the plane were killed.

The 42-year-old Indian professional was among three foreigners, all civilians, aboard the Casa C-212 plane that crashed in a mountainous area, nearly 40 km south of Jakarta. The other 15 passengers were Indonesians, 12 being military personnel.

At the time of the crash, the plane was testing equipment for digital mapping of the terrain.

The Singapore-based international company is said to be a service provider in the area of mapping-related laser scanning and satellite imagery.
