Prithvi nets three in Bhavan’s facile win

HYDERABAD: Striker Prithvi struck thrice to guide Bhavan’s College (Sainikpuri) to an impressive 5-0 win over Malla Reddy Engineering College in the inaugural match of the Sachdev Sports Cup inter-collegiate football tournament, organised by the Shastri Soccer Club, at the Trimulgherry Village grounds, here on Monday.

Joshua netted the other two goals.

In another match, Loyola College recorded a 5-1 win over Chaitanya College with Yousuf scoring three goals and Prasanna and Vala one each.

For the loser, Manoj reduced the margin.

MDLS takes title

Mechanical Diesel Loco Shed (MDLS) defeated Commercial Department 25-18, 20-25, 15-6 in the final of the Vijayawada division inter-department volleyball tournament for the DRM Cup in Vijayawada on Monday.

In the third place playoff, Mechanical C & W outplayed Electrical Maintenance 25-22, 25-18.

Other results (semifinals): Mechanical DLS bt Mechanical C & W 25-16, 16-25, 15-6; Commercial bt Electrical Maintenance 15-25, 25-20, 17-15.

Selection trials

The State chess championship for boys and girls (under-13) will be held at the Palakole (West Godavari) from July 5 to 6.

Four selected

Ch. Mohineesh (Vizag), K. Praneeth Surya (Hyderabad), G. Lasya (Vijayawada) and G. Aishwariya (Vizag) will represent AP in the National u-11 chess championship to be held at Ahmedabad in August.

Pat for Pranitha

The Andhra Pradesh Archery Association Vice-President Cherukuri Satyanarayana and Krishna District Archery Association officer-bearers on Monday congratulated Warangal-born young archer V. Pranitha for making it to Beijing Olympics.

In a release, Mr. Satyanarayana said that Pranitha’s achievement would attract many youngsters to the sport.

The 17-year-old archer bagged the coveted slot by topping the selection trial with a total of 5,167 out of a possible 5,760 points.
