Customers can get monthly cards at these new offices Steps taken for marketing value-added products TIRUCHI: Tiruchi District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union has planned to start four zonal sales offices in the city, as part of its drive to step up local sale of milk, according to Collector and Union Chairman T. Soundaiah. Presiding over the Union’s meeting held here on Saturday, Mr. Soundaiah said that presently, there were only two sales offices functioning at Puthur and the Union campus. New centresThe new centres would come up at the Chinthamani campus in Puthur, the old Palpannai at Ariyamangalam, K. K. Nagar and the New Palpannai at Kottapattu. Customers can obtain the monthly cards for milk supply at these offices. Mr. Soundiah said that the average daily local sale of milk has gone up over the last four years. From 78,105 litres during 2004-05, the daily local sale has now increased to 98,566 litres, indicating the growing demand for milk in the city. The new offices, he hoped, would help boost the local sale of milk by attracting new consumers. Steps were being taken for marketing value-added dairy products including curd, butter-milk, flavoured milk and milk-kova. Bulk milk coolers
Bulk milk coolers were being set up with the Central subsidy at eight cooperative milk societies in Thulaiyanatham, Maruthampatti, Pulivalam, Thinnanur, Thanneerpandal, Paithampaarai, Kiliyanurpatti and Oorakarai. Five more coolers would be set up at Taragampatti in Karur district, Sendurai in Ariyalur, Ammapatti, Kalingamudaiyanaptti and Thaliyampatti. ‘Clean Milk Programme’The Union has taken steps to sensitise the milk producers for producing bacteria-free milk through the ‘Clean Milk Programme.’ As part of the drive, vaccines were administered to the milch animals to protect them from foot-and-mouth disease. Union General Manager S. Sundaresan was among those who spoke.
