Congress blames S.K. Sinha

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday blamed the former Governor, S.K. Sinha, for the political crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is not the policy of the Congress to comment on the constitutional office of Governor, but whenever General Sinha has been — earlier in Assam and recently in Jammu and Kashmir —there has been a situation to stoke communal passions,” party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said here.

Pullout “unilateral”

Commenting on the crisis in the State after the government transferred land to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (the order has since been revoked) for facilitating pilgrims, Ms. Natarajan said the People’s Democratic Party pulled out of the coalition government unilaterally whereas its Ministers had supported the decision.

To a question, she said the PDP was still part of the United Progressive Alliance at the Centre, and there was no change in that status.

Blames BJP

Ms. Natarajan condemned the “blatant attempt” by the Bharatiya Janata Party for “communalising the situation” and creating an atmosphere for a “communal flare-up.”

The Amarnath yatra had been happening for years and there was no threat to pilgrims, she said.
