FIBA officials coming on July 3

NEW DELHI: The President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Bob Elphinston, along with its Secretary-General, Patrick Bauman, will be visiting Delhi on July 3 to announce a major package for India that is expected to give a boost to the game in the country.

According to the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) Secretary-General, Harish Sharma, the FIBA officials have sought time to meet the Union Sports Minister, M. S. Gill, and the IOA officials, Suresh Kalmadi and Randhir Singh. The FIBA officials would be accompanied by the Secretary-General of FIBA Asia, Yeoh Choo Hock.

The officials are scheduled to discuss tie-ups with the BFI during the ‘Basketball Without Borders’ venture under a FIBA-NBA programme to be held here. Mr. Sharma said the arrival of officials from the world and Asian bodies could change the face of the game in the country. He expected FIBA to contribute towards the improvement of the game. — Special Correspondent
