Notice ordered to bar council
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday ordered notice to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on a suit filed by an advocate seeking a direction to the council to conduct election for the post of Chairman. He also prayed for a permanent injunction restraining R.K.Chandramohen from acting as the council Chairman.
In his plaint, D.Selvam of Mylapore, submitted that the election to the council was being conducted once in five years. Prior to the election in November 2005, since there was no majority for any member, at the request of Mr.Chandramohen, he supported him. An understanding was reached wherein Mr.Selvam and Mr.Chandramohen decided to share the post between them. Mr.Chandramohen would hold the post for the first half. In the second half, Mr.Chandramohen would support Mr.Selvam to be elected as Chairman. Pursuant to this, the defendant was elected as Chairman in November 2005.
The tenure of Mr.Chandramohen ended on May 30 this year.
