Arun Kumar shifted from shrine board

Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday removed IAS officer Arun Kumar as Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and attached him with the General Administration Department on the recommendations of a three-member committee constituted last week.

Dr. Kumar was at the centre of a controversy after he reportedly told a news conference that the transfer of land to the shrine board was permanent. This is said to have sparked the violence still raging in the State.

Dr. Kumar was Principal Secretary to the former Governor, S.K. Sinha.

An official spokesman said the Committee, in its report submitted to the government, reached the conclusion that the officer had, prima facie, violated the provisions of the All-India Services (Conduct) Rules. A show-cause notice is being issued to the officer to explain his position and further action as warranted under rules will be taken.
