Man held for fraud

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police have arrested a former employee of the Chennai Corporation, N. Kuppusami, on charges of cheating several persons to the tune of Rs. 6 lakh.

The arrest was made following a compliant by a Tamil Nadu Housing Board official. According to the police, the complainant received applications from 51 persons who had produced fake documents as proof of allotment of houses through the Board. Enquiries by the TNHB revealed that the persons had paid Kuppusami Rs.6 lakh as application processing and other charges.

Kuppusami had prepared fake affidavits, sale agreement copies and forged certificates of allotment in the name of TNHB.

He also received signatures of the 51 ‘allottees’ on the documents, attested them through a notary public, and sent them to the Board.

Kuppusami, who was arrested in Tirumullaivoyal on Saturday morning, was remanded to judicial custody.
