KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting was stalled by Madhes-based parties on Saturday. They have vowed to obstruct proceedings unless their demands are met. The next session is scheduled for Sunday. Three Madehsi parties — Madhesi People’s Rights Forum, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party and Sadbhabana Party — have demanded the inclusion of their agreements with the government before the CA election in the Constitution. The SPA, which met on Saturday to take up the Madhesi issue, failed to reach an agreement. While the Nepali Congress backs the Madhesi parties, the Maoists have said they were not opposed to the agreement but were not proactive about it. Prerana Marasini reports: The demand of the Madhes-based parties have been opposed by the Tharu Kalkarini Sabha (TKS) and Chure Bhawar Ekata Party (CBEP). TKS represents the Tharus, an indigenous community of the Madhes region.
