Staff Reporter

Half-litre tetra pack to cost Rs. 2 less

The new price of 500 ml sachet is Rs. 11

Seminar on dairy development today

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Dairy chairman Tulasi Rao has announced that the dairy will hike the price of milk with effect from July 1.

The new price would be Rs.11 for a 500 ml sachet and Rs.22 for 1 litre sachet. The procurement price would be increased by Rs.1.50 a litre for milk that contains 1 kg butter. Farmers would be paid Rs. 26.50 a litre (for milk with 1 kg butter).

Presently, milk was being procured from farmers in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari district, he said, adding that the dairy would soon procure milk from farmers in West Godavari. Bulk coolers would be set up in West Godavari also, Mr. Tulasi Rao said on Friday.

But, here is good news for those who needed milk at short notice, particularly those who had kids at home. Visakha Dairy acquired a new unit from Tetrapak of Sweden for supply of milk in tetra packs.

What’s more, the milk would cost Rs. 2 less. “The price of tetra milk that is Rs.14 for a half-litre pack has been reduced to Rs.12 now. The price reduction has been made to promote the demand for tetra milk,” Mr. Tulasi Rao added. “The milk, packed in strict hygienic conditions, will have a shelf life of one month,” he said.

“The new tetra pack machine procured at a cost of Rs.25 crores from Sweden has a capacity to pack one lakh litres of milk a day,” Mr. Tulasi Rao said.
