VISAKHAPATNAM: Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development S.P. Singh on Wednesday advised officials to take up Polavaram project works keeping in view the demand for water in the year 2020. Addressing a review meeting here, he said people should not face water problem while closing the Yeleru canal for Polavaram works. He suggested that the canal be stopped for 70 days in the first phase during December and January when the weather was pleasant and water usage was less. Again, it could be closed in the second phase for 45 days during April and May. Irrigation Secretary Sutheertha Bhattacharya, VUDA Vice Chairman V.N. Vishnu, Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah, officials of Polavaram, GVMC, NTPC, APIIC, steel plant, Irrigation and other departments were present.
