‘Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’ gets SBI call letter

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: The Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram here received a call letter from the State Bank of India inviting Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi for a pre-examination training for the post of bank clerks.

It apparently is the case of a prankster registering for the bank examinations online in the name of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, and giving the address of the ashram.

The bank had no way to check the information provided by the candidates registering online for the pre-examinations training, which was scheduled from June 16 to 21, for the examinations for the clerical posts to be held in July, said a bank spokesperson. The training is held only for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates.

The Ashram authorities are not blaming the SBI as the call letter was generated from the online registration without checking the information provided.

“All such checking is possible only at the entry stage of the training schedule,” the bank spokesman said.
