Memorable day for Persis, Vinit

Madurai: Persis won four titles (under-16 singles and doubles, u-19 singles and doubles) in the girls’ section while, Vinit Madavan won three titles (under-13 singles and doubles and u-16 doubles) in the boys’ section in the Madurai District badminton championship at MGR Race Course stadium here on Tuesday.

Rippu triumphs

R. Rippu Gupta of SDAT-Ellis T.T coaching Academy won the women’s single title defeating Anunisha of SDAT 11-8, 18-16, 11-2 in the final of the district-level Open table tennis tournament organised by MDTTA at Madurai on Monday.

In the semifinals, R. Rippu Gupta beat Harini (SDAT) 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 and Anunisha beat Sneha (SDAT) 11-9, 3-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-5.

District chess

Rajapalayam Chess Club will organise the Virudhunagar District junior (under-19) chess championships for boys and girls and u-12, u-10, u-8 categories tournament at Sri Ramana Vidhalaya Matric School, Rajapalayam on June 28 and 29.
