Antony, Services chiefs to meet pay panel on revising recommendations
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Defence Minister A. K. Antony and the three services chiefs will meet the panel on revising the Sixth Pay panel report on Thursday before it submits its recommendations to the Union Cabinet.
Faced with disquiet among middle rung officers as well as jawans over the asymmetrical payscales recommended by the Commission, the government had set up an empowered committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary K. M. Chandrasekhar, to suggest improvements.
Chief of the Naval Staff Sureesh Mehta, who is also the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, will make a presentation to the committee on behalf of the three service chiefs. Sources said among the major demands are restoration of the pecking order of armed forces officers with respect to Indian Administration Service counterparts, higher special military pay for soldiers and better payscales for middle rung officers.
They have also asked the panel to create more promotional avenues at middle and higher levels.
