SALEM: The Tamil Nadu Asiriyar Munnetra Sangam has urged the State Government to give benefits to teachers, who have been regularised in 2006, with retrospective effect from their date of appointment in 2003-04.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting of the sangam’s State general committee here on Sunday. Members said the government recruited over 50,000 teachers since 2003-04 on consolidated pay. They were regularised and brought under the timescale of pay mode in June 2006.

In another resolution, the sangam said that the seniority of graduate teachers in middle schools should not get affected when they were given transfer to high and higher secondary schools. The sangam appealed to the School Education department to publish the service rules for graduate teachers of middle schools.

It also wanted the government to withdraw the new contributory pension scheme and continue to implement the old pension scheme.

State president K. Thiyagarajan said that the members would meet Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to press demands.
