Bangalore: “First Cut”, an amalgamation of multimedia and various dance forms, will be presented at Seva Sadan in Malleswaram at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Interaction

Presented by Janardhan Raj Urs, Ramya Nagaraj and Ponnamma A.D., who were trained at Nayta Institute of Kathak and Choreography, the show promises to create an interesting interaction between classical and the contemporary.

The performance will begin with an invocation, using geometrical patterns from Bharatanatya and motifs from martial arts, while paying tributes to Lord Ganesha. This will be followed by “Nandata”, a tribute to Lord Shiva. Mr. Urs has used story-telling and abstract imagery as references in creating “Nandanta”.

“Thumri”, created by blending Kathak and contemporary dance, will represent a woman’s dream through dance movements. The last piece on the show will be “Celebrations”, inspired by a piece of Hindustani music created by Abhijith Pohankar. This will combine Kathak and contemporary dance.

Each of the dancers, apart from being trained in Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas Kathak under Maya Rao, are also trained in martial arts such as Kalaripayattu, Thang Tha and Chau.
