KOCHI: Minutes after taking over as the new president of the Kerala State Athletics Association (KSAA), Baby Mathew announced a major project for athletes in the State. “We plan to build a Sports City in Kochi. With many major events coming here, we need a permanent training centre, a specialised centre with all modern facilities,” said Mathew, who is also the Managing Director of Jeevan TV, here on Saturday. “We will need around 20 acres for the project and we will be tapping various sources for funds,” he added. Prize-moneyThe association has also decided to offer prize-money at the junior inter-club meet, M. Velayudhankutty, the new secretary, said. The leading office-bearers were elected unanimously here on Saturday. The dates of the various State meets were also announced. The office-bearers: K.M. Mathew and Joseph V. Thomas (both patrons), Baby Mathew (president), Tony Daniel (executive vice-president & representative to Athletics Federation of India), P.V. Chacko, K. Parameswaran, A.J. Mathew (all vice-presidents), M. Velayudhankutty (secretary), D. Ajayan, V.K. Thankachan, Benny John, Jimmy Joseph (all joint secretaries), V.C. Alex (treasurer), Paul Aluvathingal (representative to Kerala Sports Council & AFI), P.V. Velsey (representative to Kerala Olympic Association). Sub-committees: Technical: Joseph Thomas (chairman), Sanil Sebastian (convener). Selection: C.M. Mathew (chairman), Jimmy Joseph (convener). Scrutiny: P.M.N. Namboothiri (chairman), K.V.
