Applications invited from minorities for scholarship

VELLORE: The Department of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare has invited applications from school students belonging to the minority communities for the grant of educational scholarships during the academic year 2008-09.

According to a release from Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav, the State government has decided to grant 15,340 scholarships to minority community students throughout the State, comprising 7,320 for Muslims, 7,980 for Christians, 20 for Sikhs and 20 for Buddhists during the current academic year.

Application forms and details could be downloaded from www.tn.gov.in/bcmbcmw.doc or www.minorityaffairs.gov.in.

Only students who had obtained a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the previous class annual examination and whose annual parental/guardian’s income did not exceed Rs. one lakh are eligible for the scholarships.

The eligible students should submit their applications, along with necessary documents, to their respective educational institutions before June 30.

The institutions should collect the applications, class-wise, in ascending order of parental income, and submit a consolidated application form in the prescribed format in compact disc (CD) form, along with a report, to the District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer, Vellore, before July 15. The prescribed forms are available with the above officer.
