Chhattisgarh, U.P. in both semifinals

KAPURTHALA: Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh made it to the semifinals of both the boys’ and girls’ sections in the 35th National sub-junior basketball tournament at the Sainik School courts here on Thursday.

In the boys’ semifinals, Delhi will meet Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will take on host Punjab. In the girls’ category, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand were the other teams to make the semifinals.

The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Punjab 69 bt Maharashtra 33; Chhattisgarh 53 bt Tamil Nadu 23; Delhi 53 bt Rajasthan 32; Uttar Pradesh 60 bt Jharkhand 36.

Pre-quarterfinals: Maharashtra 52 bt Karnataka 37; Uttar Pradesh 72 bt Kerala 35; Chhattisgarh 54 bt Manipur 22.

Girls (quarterfinals): Chhattisgarh 74 (Saranjeet 21, Sangeeta 19, Kavita 14) bt West Bengal 15; Jharkhand 51 (Balhi 13) bt Andhra Pradesh 29 (Lakshmi 10); Uttar Pradesh 49 bt Maharashtra 37; Tamil Nadu 47 bt Karnataka 20.

Pre-quarterfinals: West Bengal 51 bt Haryana 29; Jharkhand 38 bt Delhi 9; Maharashtra 54 (Shireen Leema 12, Kritika 12) bt Punjab 45.
