CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police arrested a woman on charges of creating forged documents to withdraw Rs.12 lakh from a savings bank account of her deceased husband. According to police, R. Ravi of Luz Church Road, Mylapore, had invested Rs.10 lakh in a mutual fund of a private bank, which on maturity became around Rs.22 lakh. The bank authorities by mistake sent a statement to R. Ravi of Tondiarpet, who also had a savings account in the bank. Realising that the statement was meant for someone else, he kept it aside. After a few months, he died of heart attack. When his wife Rajini came across the statement, she got in touch with two persons dealing in mutual funds, who told her that she could get the maturity amount from the bank. For this, the three jointly produced forged documents, including a no-objection certificate from the mother of the deceased. Along with the legal heir certificate that she obtained, the documents were submitted to the bank. Police said that on receipt of the documents, the bank transferred the amount to the account of Ravi of Tondiarpet, her husband. Subsequently, Rajini withdrew Rs.12 lakh and distributed Rs.8 lakh to the two persons.
