Cheques distributed

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday handed over cheques of Rs. 40,000 each to the shopkeepers who had lost their goods in the fire accident at the Jayanagar shopping complex on June 13.

As many as 90 cheques have been handed over. This comes after Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa enhanced the compensation to Rs. 50,000 from Rs. 10,000 announced by the BBMP. Earlier, Rs. 10,000 each was distributed to the shopkeepers.

Meanwhile, Jayanagar Shopping Complex Merchants’ Association has urged the Chief Minister to enhance the compensation to a minimum of Rs. 1 lakh.

Transport Minister R. Ashok and MP H.N. Ananth Kumar and Jayanagar MLA B.N. Vijayakumar distributed the cheques.
